NEW WORLD VIRTUES (2008)
Inspiration for these paintings came at the local supermarket, where a mother tried in vain to elicit a response from her iPod-wearing, finger-texting daughter.
I was struck by the implications of this situation and wondered if,
as a child, I too would have been as consumed (and flattered) by
these gadgets as this young girl was.
These paintings play with notions of a nostalgic past and an
uncertain future. Everyday events become instant gratifications as
information is transferred a the press of a button.
Somewhere, every second of every day, every number does count.
