In 1996 the United
Nations Centre for Human Settlements reported that women owned just 1% of
the world’s wealth. The report also stated that “...women are
relegated to homelessness or squatter-status in many parts of the world where
they cannot legally own or inherit land, cannot obtain bank-loans, receive
lower wages than men, and often are abandoned to raise children alone.”
Along with war and aggression (Games We Play, Taking of Liberty)
often based on ethnic or religious differences (I have come to give
you Peace, Tender Mercies) women are ultimately left disempowered
and vulnerable (Venus Naturalis).
Fear battles hope (Nor’wester, Unrest, There is no peace, there
is no freedom) in a fragile climate (Like Porcelain, Three
Sisters).
